More About Maplewood Community Pool
For over 40 years, thousands of Maplewood citizens and their guests have had a splash in the town's community pool. The usual rules apply (public pools rarely welcome horseplay, and Maplewood is no exception) and swimming lessons are offered to the youngsters.
In the summer of 2009 head pool operator Michael Banks is on his fifth season with the MCP.
The total water volume incorporated among the four pool areas was approximately 1 million gallons, comprised of 450,00 gallons for the main pool, 37,000 gallons in the training and kiddie pools and 335,000 gallons in the dive tank. Also, it has one of the only two 10-meter diving platforms in New Jersey State (the other is at Rutgers University).
The pool hosts the practices of the Makos, Maplewood's competitive youth swimming team. But it's not just a temple of soaking wet sports; it's a community center. Once you're dry, hit the snack bar or check out a board game.
