Maplewood Community Music celebrates its 10th annual free SummerMusic concert on Sunday, July 15 at the Memorial Park amphitheater (across from the train station) from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. Bring your family, a picnic, and enjoy the music of the Maplewood community bands, comprised of musicians from Maplewood and nearby towns. There is no rain site or rain date.

The program by the community band, led by Tom McGee, will feature "a musical world tour."

For its portion of the concert, Swing Town – our town’s 22-piece big band led by Ben Williams - will be performing a broad mix of jazz and swing classics.

SummerMusic is presented by Maplewood Community Music, a volunteer organization dedicated to community music and service in Maplewood founded by musical director emeritus Jim Buchanan and administrator Susan Dillon. The group includes a concert band led by Tom McGee, swing band (“Swing Town”) led by Ben Williams, Dixieland band (“Jackson Square”), and trombone choir. It is run under the auspices of the Maplewood Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs, Keith Knudson director.  For more information about the organization, including information on how to become a member or financial supporter, visit us at www.maplewoodcommunitymusic.org.

More About Memorial Park

Many Maplewood residents are transplanted New Yorkers. The town's easy commute to the Big Apple certainly attracts former Gothamites. But we can't help but wonder if the fact that Maplewood has a central park, of sorts, adds to its former New Yorker appeal.

Memorial Park is at the heart of the town, as it's bordered by the train station, the Municipal Building, the Maplewood Library and the town's country club.

The park features two playgrounds, two multi-purpose fields, three tennis courts and four picnic tables.
