DESCRIPTION:Mzuri Moyo will perform her one-woman show about the life and
  spirit of 60s civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer.&nbsp\; Ms. Moyo h
 as traveled the country with her signature performance in this one-woman
  musical play.\nA native of Paterson\, Mzuri Moyo has been enthusiastica
 lly received on cabaret and concert stages internationally\, including C
 arnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.&nbsp\; Mzuri recently sang in Paraguay 
 with Opera for Peace.&nbsp\; Mzuri's film credits include the poignant p
 ortrayal of Lucy in Haile Gerima's highly acclaimed independent film pro
 duction "Sankofa".&nbsp\; Her portrayal of Fannie Lou Hamer received the
  2002 AUDELCO Award for Best Solo Performance.\nFannie Lou Hamer was one
  of the most talked-about activists of the golden age of civil rights an
 d was the Mississippi freedom fighter of the 1960s.&nbsp\; Hamer was bor
 n in 1917\, the granddaughter of slaves and the youngest of 19 brothers 
 and sisters.&nbsp\; In 1962\, when Hamer was 44 years old\, Student Nonv
 iolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) volunteers came to town and held a 
 voter registration.&nbsp\; She was surprised to learn that African-Ameri
 cans actually had a constitutional right to vote!&nbsp\; When the SNCC m
 embers asked for volunteers to go to the courthouse to register to vote\
 , Hamer was the first to raise her hand\, which was a dangerous decision
 .&nbsp\;\nThe performance will be part of the 10:30 a.m. worship service
  at St. Andrew and Holy Communion Church.
