T.J. Hemphill's "I'll Be Home for Christmas"
Newark Symphony Hall, 1030 Broad St, Newark, NJ | Get Directions »
$38.00
The story revolves around David, a young man whose street life lands him in jail as he takes the wrap for a crime he didn’t commit. While spending time in jail, he takes on a new title of “preacher man” after he discovers his love for the God’s Word.
Meanwhile, back at home, his father, Rev. Bolden, played by Grammy-Nominated R&B singer Freddie Jackson, is deciding who will become the new pastor of his church after he takes on an assignment that forces him to step down. David’s brother, Josh, played by R&B singer/actor Sam Logan; who has served his father faithfully, is married to Maxine, played by gospel-singer/actress Lisa Page Brooks, whose only objective in life, is to become the church’s first lady. She may have her husband and everyone else fooled but Mother Bolden, played by R&B singer/actress Shirley Murdock, sees right through her wicked ways.
When David finally gets out of prison, he comes home just in time to spend the Christmas with his family. His charismatic personality instantly captures the hearts of the congregation and that’s bad news for his sister-in-law. This “diva Grinch” will stop at nothing to get what she wants including ruining the joyous holiday for the entire family. With plenty of laughs and even a few tears, this play is full of drama, comedy and a rollercoaster of emotions!
