Editor's Notebook: Here is Another Way to Get to Newark

For Livingston, Maplewood, South Orange, this can help

While NJ Transit responds to customer concerns by adding more buses, there is a very practical option for Livingston, Maplewood and South Orange-based commuters who need to get to Newark.

The CoachUSA bus #31 runs along South Orange Avenue, from Livingston Mall to Newark Penn Station, making a small loop in Maplewood.

This bus, which I have personally taken many times, is efficient and direct. Locals can get on the bus across from Village Hall in South Orange.

The fare is per "zone." For most of us, this is a three-zone ride, which costs $2.70. More fare info is here.

Another way for Maplewoodians to get to Newark Penn Station is via the jitneys and then the NJTransit #25 or #70 buses that run along Springfield Avenue. This evening my commute home took 1 hr. 40 mins via a train from NY Penn to Newark, then the #70 bus to the jitney. Much better than my ordeal on the 107 bus last night. For details on the jitney operation, see the Maplewood Township website.

Where is the "small loop in Maplewood" referenced above?

Where exactly is the "Maplewood Loop" stop? I see Valley/Milburn as a stop but then "Maplewood Loop" as a second stop. Also, anyone know where the Coach bus picks up at Newark Penn? Thanks.
