Family Bake Sale to Benefit Kids With Cancer

Leo Jasper, a 9-year old Maplewood boy in remission from leukemia and his family are hosting a bake sale to benefit the Valerie Center at Saint Barnabas.

Leo Jasper of Maplewood, now 9, was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2007.

“Treated with tremendous care and compassion at the Valerie Center at Saint Barnabas, Leo is now in remission,” said mother Linda Bernstein Jasper.

The family, which has lived in Maplewood since 2001, decided they wanted to hold an event to give back to the Valerie Fund, which is headquartered in Maplewood.

The family will be holding a charity event, “Sweet Leo's: A Gourmet Bake Sale to Help Kids with Cancer” on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Burgdorff Center from 1:15 to 4 p.m.

Six other bakers from Maplewood will be there to sell their treats, said Linda.

“It’s bake sale-palooza, with over 30 offerings, from pies and cookies to whoopie pies and cupcakes,” she said. “We even have gluten-free treats and homemade dog biscuits.”

All of the proceeds from the Sweet Leo’s bake sale will go to the Valerie Center to help other kids just like Leo.
