Maplewood Woman's Club Becomes The Woodland

The Maplewood Township Committee said the building will be in use for the community as it is being renovated.

As Maplewood Township says good-bye to the Maplewood Woman's Club, a "new" facility will fill the void.

The Woman's Club has now become The Woodland, the Maplewood Township Committee announced Wednesday. The venue will continue to serve the community as it previously had, hosting a range of cultural, educational and recreational activities for community members.

The township named the 1930's-era property a historic landmark in 2014, and purchased it from the Woman's Club in 2013 to ensure it continued to serve the community for years to come.

“We are thrilled that this important building with its rich and storied history will continue to serve as a hub for Maplewood’s vibrant cultural and civic life," said Mayor Victor DeLuca. “I expect that The Woodland will quickly become a valued asset and great source of pride for the community.”

The Township Committee said in a release that the 7,000-square-foot facility will ease the burden on other venues, with book signings and other activities on the list to kick off its relaunch.

Only two of its three floors, however, are certified for public use as the building is in need of renovation. The committee said the space will continue to be used as the remainder of the building is brought up to standard.
