It's a Slam Dance Saturday Night in Maplewood

Line up your babysitters for a rare Story Slam-Dance Party hybrid.

It's hard to imagine what could be more scintillating than a Studio B Story Slam, where brave souls metaphorically bare it all for the entertainment of a live audience (and bragging rights for the winner).

Well, how about these apples: a Story Slam and Dance Party, rolled into one fantastically fun night?

On Saturday at 8 p.m., Studio B will host said Slam/Dance combo at the Maplewood Woman's Club (not the Burgdorff this time), at 60 Woodland Road. Admission is $10; you must be over 21 to enter, as beer will be served. RSVP to studiobmaplewood@gmail.com

"Story Slams are always fun, but this time around we're looking forward to blowing off a little steam," said Marcy Thompson, co-founder of Studio B. "The holidays can be overly stressful - so we've created an event where you get to enjoy some great stories AND some amazing music. No baking required."

For those who have never been, or need a refresher on the basics of a Story Slam: hopeful contestants bring a 5-minute story they are willing to read aloud. Eight names are drawn from a hat and the reading begins. Three judges, who happen to be literary agents, decide the winner.

As if that were not exciting enough, part two of the evening will feature DJ FLO spinning some funk, Motown and soul. Dancing is strongly encouraged.
