Juicebox Guitarist Releases 4-Song EP

From Ossining to Rome, Philadelphia to San Francisco to — Maplewood?

Towns and cities great and small have been home to Marco Ranieri — guitarist, singer, songwriter. Along the way, he's gathered a coterie of great musicians with whom to collaborate. The fruits of their friendship can be found on Ranieri's recently released 4-song EP "Heartbroken Radio."

Originally from Ossining, New York, Ranieri also grew up also in Rome, Italy. His first hard rock band The Shoobies formed in New York City with guitarist/singer/writer Tim Heap of HEAP and was heavily influenced by The Replacements and Redd Kross.

Ranieri left New York for Philadelphia where his now wife and bass player Kristy (a.k.a. Ginger Moon) was playing in the touring all-girl rock band The Friggs. In Philadelphia, Ranieri played in the band Mae Pang, a garage rock success appearing on the covers of weekly magazines and opening for travelling national acts including The Muffs, Southern Culture on the Skids.

Ranieri also played in The Stupid Club with Mick Cancer, a Philadelphia punk scene veteran heavily influenced by Lux Interior and Iggy Pop. Ranieri and wife ultimately left Philadelphia for San Francisco where they formed a rock three-piece named Peachum after Polly Peachum of The Three Penny Opera.

Settling (at least for the present!) in Maplewood, Ranieri is known to locals as the guitarist/singer/writer for Juicebox featuring Leslie Goldman. The incarnation of the band featuring Ranieri enjoyed a three-year run playing the backyards and other venues of Essex County. Juicebox released two three-song CD’s called Juicebox and Rock and Roll Carwash. 

Ranieri's lead guitar playing on a 1991 sunburst Gibson Les Paul has drawn comparisons to Robert Quine, Lou Reed and Marc Ribot.

Released in November 2012, Ranieri’s debut solo EP Heartbroken Radio features his all-star band including bassist (and wife) Ginger Moon and Philadelphia songwriter and keyboardist Rocco Notte, a founding member of The A’s on keys. Thomas Stratton of Socratic plays drums and also wears the hats of producer and arranger.

Heartbroken Radio is available for sale on iTunes, Cd Baby, and Spotify. The band will perform at the Seth Boyden Spotlight Parent-Staff Talent Show on Jan. 25 and Rent Party on March 8. Ranieri also recieves some internet airplay on HomeGrownRadioNJ.org and suckfreeradio.com.
