Win Tickets to See 'Sing the Truth' Sunday at NJPAC

Patch is giving away three pairs of tickets for tribute to jazz, gospel singers at Prudential Hall.

Three jazz vocalists will pay homage to such legendary women singers as Miriam Makeba and Abbey Lincoln at the New Jersey Performing Art Center’s performance of "Sing the Truth" Sunday afternoon.

And Patch wants you to be there. So, we’re giving away three pairs of tickets for Patch readers for the 3 p.m performance.

You can win the tickets by entering our ticket giveaway contest.

To enter, first become a Patch reader, by logging in on your local Patch site. Then send an email to the Local Editor of your site with your name and phone number with the word “Truth” in the subject line to Patch. Deadline is Thursday, Dec. 15 at 4 p.m.

Winners will pick up their tickets at the box office. And, if you take a photo of yourself at the theater, we will post it on Patch.

Sorry, you have to take care of your own parking.

Sing the Truth features three women of contemporary song – multilingual singer-songwriter Angelique Kidjo, Grammy winning jazz legend Dianne Reeves and jazz/gospel-inspired diva Lizz Wright – as they pay tribute to three legends: Makeba, Lincoln and Odetta.

The concert will include music made famous by the trio, original compositions and titles by other leading ladies of song – ranging from Billie Holiday to Lauryn Hill.

While you’re there, you'll also see Montclair resident Geri Allen, who will perform as part of the backing band for the ensemble.

Backing the trio along with Allen are drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, bassist James Genus and guitarist Romero Lubambo.

Sing the Truth started at the 2004 JVC Jazz Festival when it celebrated the music of Nina Simone. In 2008, the concert morphed into a touring production that has appeared at venues including the Barbican Centre in London, Jazz a Vienne in France, the National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta and at the Sydney Opera House.  When Kidjo, Reeves and Wright performed together in the Sing The Truth tour in 2009, they formed a close friendship that blossomed into this new tour.

Tickets range between $25-$90 and are available by calling (888) 466-5722 or visiting the NJPAC box office, as well as by ordering online at njpac.org.

The New Jersey Performing Arts Center is located at 1 Center St. in Newark.
