Chelsea Set Celebrates 35 Years in Maplewood

Salon will mark its anniversary on Saturday.

When The Chelsea Set Salon opened its doors in Maplewood Village on July 7, 1978, singer Connie Francis was the guest of honor.

The salon's owner Libby Christensen had traveled the globe with Francis as the singer's personal hairdresser before deciding to launch her own business. The ad for the new salon -- which touted  'frosting' and 'permanent waving' among its services -- featured a photo of a glamorous Christensen arm-in-arm with Francis.

"Imagine 35 years of doing what you love," said Christensen recently.

The salon will celebrate the special day on Saturday with snacks and light refreshments -- and no doubt a healthy dose of reminiscing -- for customers and friends.

"All are welcome," said Christensen.
