Shana Teitelbaum Brings Mom.Com Deals to Maplewood

Daily deals websites are all the rage, and one local mom has got it covered for Maplewood and South Orange.

If you want to get something done, hire a mom.

And CafeMom.com did just that when it decided to launch the pilot of its new daily deals website www.mom.com.

CafeMom — the self-described largest ad-supported website targeting parents (we're talking 7 million unique visitors per month) — was started by local-boys-made-good Andrew Shue and Michael Sanchez. So when Shue and Sanchez wanted to get in on the daily deals phenom blazed by GroupOn and LivingSocial, they decided to pilot the program from North Jersey where Sanchez still lives.

Shana Teitelbaum was the woman they turned to. As Co-President of Fundraising for the South Mountain School PTA and former President of Parent Action Committee to JCC, West Orange Campus, Shana is plugged in "hyperlocally" — something Shue and Sanchez knew was necessary to make this work.

"I know a lot of the merchants personally," said Teitelbaum when Patch caught up with her between swinging deals and ferrying her two sons (rising 1st and 4th graders) to sports and camps. (Those sports include soccer, lacrosse, football and baseball — increasing Teitelbaum's reach in the community exponentially.)

Teitelbaum said that the job is a perfect fit for a working mom. Sometimes she hits the pavements in Maplewood and South Orange villages, Springfield Avenue, Irvington Avenue, Downtown Millburn and more. Sometimes she works her email and the phones. "I can do it on my own time, set my own hours," said Teitelbaum, who works when the boys are in school or camp or after they've gone to bed.

Another appeal of the job is this: "I really wanted to help support our local merchants, the mom and pop shops in town."

All of this positions Teitelbaum to be uniquely in touch with what the mom.com customer is looking for. One customer recently enthused on Facebook, "I'm LOVING that these deal sites are having deals that are more local to us. I've been seeing good stuff on Mom.com in particular" after scoring 60% off a massage at Serenity Spa in Millburn thanks to mom.com.

Since the site launched in May, Teitelbaum has offering deals from , , , Sparkhouse Kids. , Pamdance, and more. Her first deal was for 14 unlimited days at Baker Street Yoga for just $25.

To score deals like this, you can sign up — for free — at www.mom.com/r/7. Deals are emailed daily and you have 48 hours to purchase. You can also like mom.com on Facebook.

Others have found them already — mom.com has more than 11,000 "likes" on Facebook — and mom.com has expanded beyond Maplewood and South Orange to West Orange, Millburn, Short Hills, Westfield, Summit, Springfield, Madison, Chatham, Livingston and — most recently — Montclair, Berkeley Heights, Morristown and New Providence. Mom.com is looking to expand soon to Brooklyn, other parts of New Jersey and the suburbs of Chicago and Boston, said Teitelbaum.

Yes, moms are taking over the world. One deal at a time.
