South Orange Pub Tapping 'FU Sandy' Keg For Hurricane Relief Effort

Flying Fish Brewing Co. releases its special Hurricane Sandy brew, with proceeds going to relief efforts. Grab a pint at the Gaslight Brewery Saturday.

The Gaslight Brewery in South Orange has one of 86 kegs of FU Sandy beer created by Flying Fish Brewing Co. to help with Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

Called FU Sandy (the "FU" stands for Forever Unloved, of course), the hybrid white ale was made in part as a fundraiser for New Jersey storm relief efforts for Hurricane Sandy devastation. Flying Fish is hoping to raise $50,000 from the beer and merchandise sales.

Flying Fish first announced FU Sandy on Dec. 20, and now the list of where the beer is on tap is finalized, with the Cloverleaf in Caldwell, the Gaslight Brewery in South Orange and McLoone's Boathouse in West Orange making the list.

The first 36 guests to purchase FU Sandy on Feb. 16 at the Cloverleaf will receive a free commemorative pint glass, according to an announcement on the pub's Facebook page. One hundred percent of sales will go to Sandy relief. Doors open at 11 a.m.

Flying Fish, which was founded in Cherry Hill, is Jersey through and through, creating several beers based around the New Jersey Turnpike exits, each with a nod toward the history of the area.

If you are hoping for a six pack, FU Sandy is only available on draft at a long list of places, many of which will be hosting "tapping parties" beginning Feb. 16.

The brewer described the ale contents this way: "Brewed with a 50/50 blend of Two Row Pale Malt and American White Wheat. It is hopped with experimental hop ADHA 483, donated by the American Dwarf Hop Association, which has never been used in a beer before this one. Muller and Head Brewer Casey Hughes expect a beautiful, tropical nose of mangoes and guavas that will accentuate the beer’s soft mouth feel and contribute to a truly one-of-a-kind ale."

Where to grab a pint of FU Sandy this weekend? The list will be updated on Flying Fish's website, here.
