Cryan's Beef and Ale House, the popular South Orange bar and restaurant that was a South Orange mainstay for 30 years, announced it had closed its doors effective Jan. 1, according to a recent Twitter posting.

Township to Break Ground on Springfield Avenue Project

The township has announced plans to break ground on a mixed-use residential and commercial building at 1611 Springfield Ave. in Maplewood on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 10 a.m. 

The project, which has been in the works for several years, will feature 5,275 square feet of retail space on the ground floor as well as six apartments on the second floor.

Burglaries Spiked in 2012 in Maplewood

Burglaries in Maplewood township increased by 82% in 2012, the largest increase in several years, according to Police Chief Robert Cimino. 

District Warns of Chickenpox at Columbia HS

Columbia High School has seen a number of students diagnosed with varicella, or chicken pox, in recent days. The district released a notification via email on Wednesday.

A 22-year-old man was arrested for disorderly conduct on Saturday, Dec. 29, after his parents alerted police their son was reportedly intoxicated and had taken a knife from the kitchen, according to Maplewood Police Capt. John Perna.
