Feels Like Spring, Looks Like Christmas in Maplewood

Village Christmas tree and Dickens houses get prepped for Saturday.

The temperature may be hovering near 60 today, but the signs in Maplewood Village are pointing squarely at the holidays.

On Tuesday afternoon, a worker in a bucket truck was stringing lights on the Christmas tree at Ricalton Square, while Ellen Davenport and Rosetta Weiser of the Dickens Village Committee were busy decorating the Dickens Houses.

Dickens Village debuts this Saturday, Dec. 8 with the arrival of Santa on a fire truck (1 p.m.), visits with Santa (1-3 p.m.), and other entertainment.

Mayor Vic DeLuca will perform the traditional Holiday Reading at 5 p.m., which will be followed by the tree lighting.

The Dickens Village houses will be open for each Saturday (Dec. 8, Dec. 15, and Dec. 22) from 1 - 4 p.m. The houses will also be open from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16.

The Menorah Lighting is Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m.
