Gardeners, we know you have been waiting all year for this. The Maplewood Garden Club's 75th Annual Plant Sale kicks off on Thursday, May 10 from noon - 8 p.m. The sale continues on Friday, May 11 from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. and concludes on Saturday, May 12 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. It is held at the Maplewood Community Pool parking lot at 187 Boyden Avenue, and will run rain or shine.
Proceeds from the sale, which The Star-Ledger dubbed the "Big Momma" of community plant sales in New Jersey, support the club's activites in Maplewood, including scholarships, beautification, youth gardening and education.
The sale will offer:
- Perennials - a huge selection for sun or shade
- Annuals/Tender Perennials - traditional and exotic
- Herbs & Vegetables —including tomatoes grown by the MGC
- House Plants
- Mother's Day Gift Baskets
- Member Grown
Plants are selected by experienced Maplewood gardeners, some of whom have been living (and experimenting) here for decades. One popular category is "Member Grown," which are plants donated by members — plants that do so well in Maplewood that they have grown big and healthy enough to split and share.
Club members will be on hand throughout the sale to answer gardening questions and help shoppers make appropriate selections.
Cash or check only; no credit cards accepted. The club suggests that shoppers bring a garden cart or child's wagon (they will not supply shopping carts) and large boxes for packing for the trip home.
