Did you know that today, Wednesday, October 6 is International Walk to School Day ? In that case, we should make it Crossing Guard Appreciation Day, too. Actually, with the way New Jerseyans drive, EVERY day should be Crossing Guard Appreciation Day... (Thank you, Cathy, Blanche, Arlene and Jeanie for making my family's mornings so much safer!) Feel free to add your route's 'shout out' below!
The Perfect Pumpking Meets Its Patch
Now that the chill of autumn is in the air and the thrill of Halloween is evident in every creatively creepy decorative display, the search for the perfect pumpkin begins!
(The big challenge here is purchasing and carving your squash with enough running time to actually enjoy them before Halloween more than the ravenous squirrels will if left without 24 hour watch… Voracious, fluffy tailed rats!)
Anyhow…you might just want to skip the overpriced, over-packed patch this year and hightail it to Ridgewood and the corner of Baker Street, based on the sneak peek I just got of the plethora of plump pumpkin pickings on hand for 'Family Fun Saturdays' at Morrow's Pumpkin Patch.
The fine folks at Morrow have spent this week gathering no less than 3,200 pounds of pumpkins for your ghoulish décor and carving delight. They'll be selling them at their 'Family Fun Saturdays' October 9th -17th at prices starting as low as $1! In addition to a stellar selection of squash, you'll also find games, pumpkin decorating, crafts, storytelling and treats. The event runs Saturdays from 10am – 4pm and Sundays from Noon – 4pm. You can also pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic at the patch weekdays from 11am – 1pm.
All proceeds support the outreach work of the Morrow youth groups.
Mark my words, they'll be handing out more bookmarks Friday!
If you scurried past the fine folks handing out slim slices of paper at the train station yesterday, you cheated yourself out of one very informative bookmark: To raise interest and awareness for this weekend's Maplewood Green Day event, some very environmentally minded and friendly folks are greeting commuters with these useful- and enlightening- page markers.
Missed yours? No worries- you'll get another chance to grab one Friday.
