Register Now for Low Interest FEMA Loans

The Essex County FEMA Disaster Relief Center has been set up in Fairfield. But you must register online or by phone before visiting.

If you have suffered damages to your home or business due to Hurricane Irene, help has arrived.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has opened a Disaster Relief Center (DRC) for Essex County homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes who wish to register for a low-interest disaster loan.

The DRC for Essex County is located in Fairfield at 376 Hollywood Avenue and is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. If you wish to apply for disaster assistance you must register before visiting the DRC.

Before you call to register, you should have the following available:

  • A phone number where you can be reached
  • Social Security number
  • Address of damaged property
  • Current mailing address (separate from damaged property if inaccessible)
  • Brief description of damages  
  • Insurance information

Register (even if you have insurance) online anytime at www.disasterassistance.gov or call 800-621-FEMA (711 and Video Relay Service also available). TTY:  800-462-7585, is available for those with access or functional needs.

There is no income threshold for disaster assistance. The incident period for qualification is August 27 through September 5, 2011. Deadline for registration is October 31, 2011.
