SOMA Weathergirl: Watch Out for Winds

High wind warning in effect for Western Essex and environs.

The National Weather Service issued a High Wind Warning from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 am EST Thursday for parts of interior Northern New Jersey, including Western Essex County.

The warning comes on top of flash flood warnings issued earlier on Wednesday. The combination of strong winds and heavy rain could bring down trees, large tree limbs, power lines and unsecured outdoor objects.

Some storms could produce heavy rainfall tonight and into Thursday morning, with 1 to 2 inches possible. The temperature will dip back into the 30s on Thursday, Friday and into the weekend.

PSE&G issued a storm alert Wednesday evening, warning people to stay away from downed power lines. To report downed wires or power outages, customers should call PSE&G's Customer Service line at 1-800-436-PSEG or by visiting PSE&G's website, or following them on Twitter
