South Orange Blackout Continues into Monday

As many as 500 South Orange households woke to a dark Monday. Sunday evening saw power outages in a number of South Orange neighborhoods. The hardest hit appears to be Newstead, where some residents saw the lights go on early Sunday afternoon. The Village confirmed that PSE&G is aware of the problem by sending out  emergency notifications on Sunday evenings.  PSE&G confirms the outages on their website.

According to Village information, the outages were due to "downed power lines, and some were from transformers that became overloaded Sunday afternoon."   Those residents who were affected by downed power lines were expected to have power back sooner, even on Sunday night.  Those impacted by the transformer were given no estimate.

According to the Village Statement,  "No address information could be provided by PSEG to the Village regarding which outages were caused by which problems, but residents experiencing an outage are encouraged to call PSEG directly to report the outage, and for more information about their outage. You can reach them at 800-436-7734. Remember, PSEG cannot tell if your power is out automatically, it must be reported by phone directly to them."
