Getting Started: Where Do I Begin?

     One of the first
questions which those who begin the adoption journey often face is “Where Do I
Begin?”   This presentation will offer
prospective adoptive parents an overview of the adoption process, including the
Homestudy evaluation, what issues to consider in deciding whether to pursue an
international or a domestic adoption, what services are generally provided by
an adoption agency, as well as the different roles that an agency and an
adoption attorney may have in your adoption plan . There will be a question and
answer period following the presentation.

     Lorraine
Kolankowski, LCSW is the Executive Director of Homestudies and Adoption
Placement Services (HAPS), a licensed New Jersey and New York Hague accredited
adoption agency.  The agency provides a
full range of adoption services for international and domestic adoptions,
including Homestudy evaluations, adoption placements and pre-placement
services. Lorraine received her MSW degree from Fordham University and is a
licensed social worker in New Jersey and in New York. She has over 30 years
experience in adoption, and has worked with birthfamilies, adoptive families
and adoptees.
