Local Youngsters Featured on Luna Stage

Dec. 14 holiday concert showcases three young vocalists currently studying at Mark Murphy's Music in South Orange

Three young Maplewood and South Orange vocalist will be featured in an upcoming performance with the Apprentice Chorus of the Newark Boys Chorus School at the Luna Stage in West Orange.

The holiday concert will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 4 p.m., offering traditional holiday music as well as classic standards from the chorus repertoire.

In addition to the chorus, the concert showcases three young vocalists currently studying at Mark Murphy’s Music in South Orange. Musical performances feature Ally Salort (age 10), 5th grader at Tuscan Elementary School and Star Spangled Banner performer at this year’s opening day for Maplewood/South Orange baseball; Keira January (age 10), 5th grader at Jefferson Elementary School who sings and plays piano; and Zoe Crutcher (age 13), 8th grader from South Orange and past performer at Rockwood Music Hall in New York City.

The Newark Boys Chorus School, located in Newark and founded in 1969, provides academic and musical education to young men from the greater Newark area in grades five through eight. The chorus has performed at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.

A percentage of the proceeds will benefit the Newark Boys Chorus School.
