Maplewood First Grader Featured As Character in Children’s Book

 ‘Daddy's Greek Potato Pie’ is a story that begins with a weekend play date and a boy named Dylan who can't wait to share his daddy's special vegetable pie recipe with his friend Drew, based Maplewood six-year old Elisha Wasden.

Drew is not sure about the special treat because it is a vegetable pie and he wonders if he will like it. Throughout the story, Dylan and Drew have questions and both learn about why the pie is good for them.

The book uses the USDA's myplate.gov as a template to educate readers about healthy eating in a fun way that children can relate to.

Children's book author CC Minton launched her new book entitled 'Daddy's Greek Potato Pie' at a book signing and pie tasting event held at Supreme Bakery located at 40 Main St., West Orange on Nov. 14.

"I'm so excited to bring this story to young readers," Minton said in a written statement. "Literacy month and the month of November was a great time to launch. Families loved the book and the taste of the pie and even the Mayor of West Orange stopped by."

Minton added that she has read to over 100 kids since the book launch and there could not have been a better time to release it.

"It's just in time for the holidays," Minton said.

Elisha is excited and looks forward to the author visiting Seth Boyden in March to read and do a book signing. Perhaps he’ll be able to sign a few books as well.

"I enjoyed working with Elisha - it was so much fun, He's bright, funny, follows instructions so well and is easy to work with,” Minton said.
