Maplewood Officers Earn Promotions

Three Maplewood Police Officers were sworn into their new roles at Monday's Township Committee meeting.

Three Maplewood Police Officers were promoted and sworn into their new roles, Monday, surrounded by fellow officers, township officials, family, friends and supportive residents.

The Maplewood Municipal building was completely filled while Lieutenant Michael Anthony Marucci, Sergeant Thomas Ames Perna and Officer Thomas Patrick DiMaggio were sworn in before the Maplewood Township Committee.

The promotions came after Maplewood Captain John Perna announced his retirement.

Lieutenant. Marucci was promoted to Captain, Sergeant Perna was promoted to Lieutenant and Officer DiMaggio was promoted to Sergeant.

“I'd like to thank Mayor DeLuca of the Township of Maplewood, Chief Cimino, my brother and sister officers, my wife and family for putting up with all my craziness over the years, and I'd also like to thank Captain John Perna who retired, who gave us the opportunity to be here tonight,” said newly appointed Lt. Perna to applause from the audience.

“I'd like to thank the men and women of the Maplewood Police Department for supporting me,” said Captain Marucci. “I'm going to do the best job that I can.”

The whole group filed out and headed over to O'Reilly's Bar and Grill in Maplewood to celebrate.
