Michael Worth Remembered; Services Scheduled

The Maplewood/South Orange community suffered an enormous loss this Independence Day weekend. Michael Worth, age 50—devoted father of 16-yr-old Jack Worth and 12-year-old Gabe Worth—died suddenly on the night of July 3rd.

Besides his sons, Mike was the beloved companion of Alyssa Frey and beloved ex-husband of Lori Alvarez-Worth; and the beloved brother of Julie Benn, Ellen Worth, Victoria Bellous, and Douglas Worth. Mike also leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, and friends who miss him deeply, as he was a man who touched the lives of so many people in ways big and small.

Having earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Long Island University, Mike’s career revolved around helping others, whether through the new-father support group he founded in Chatham, NJ, or in his position as a child psychologist at the Calhoun school in New York City. He served as a coach of both sons’ baseball teams for almost ten years, where his commitment to teamwork and unflagging good humor inspired countless young athletes. Mike was always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand; his absence leaves a palpable scar in the heart of our community.

There will be a memorial service celebrating his life Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Funeral Chapel in Livingston, NJ, at 1pm.
