Robert Joseph Korba, Former Maplewood Resident, Dies at 64

Robert Joseph Korba, 64, of Austin, Texas, and formerly of Maplewood, NJ, died of a prolonged illness on on Feb. 7, 2014.

Bob Korba (“BK”) was born to the late Joseph and Anne Korba, in Dover, NJ. He graduated from Columbia High School, Maplewood NJ, in 1968 and received a BFA in Graphic Design from Southern Methodist University in 1972.

BK had a storied 30-year career as a graphic designer and political campaign consultant in Austin TX, where he designed campaign graphics for political issues; local, regional and state candidates; state senators and representatives; judges and justices; and Texas gubernatorial politicians. He was the graphic designer for George W. Bush’s first political campaign in 1976.

He co-founded the sport of lacrosse in Texas in 1971, pioneered the growth of youth and high school lacrosse in Austin, served as a lacrosse official, and coached the University of Texas men’s team for over a decade. BK co-founded the Men’s College Lacrosse Association, and was the recipient of the MCLA Sam Sadtler - Service Award, and the Friends of Central Texas Lacrosse -Lifetime Achievement Award.

He was an active supporter of the arts in Austin and participated in a number of art leagues. BK is survive by John Korba of Boca Raton, FL; Rod Korba of Alexandria, VA; and Michael Korba of  Johnston, Rhode Island.
