Car Stolen From Driveway While Owner Shoveled, Police Say

A 2007 Acura was running with the keys inside when a thief jumped in and drove away Wednesday afternoon, police said.

A Boyden Avenue resident's car was stolen Wednesday afternoon while the owner was shoveling snow right in front of the house, Maplewood Police said.

The resident was shoveling the driveway outside of his home on Boyden Avenue when someone jumped into the gray 2007 Acura MDX and drove away just after noon on Wednesday, police said.

“The vehicle was running and unattended while they were shoveling snow,” Maplewood Police Capt. Michael Marucci said.

The car's owner did not get a good look at the thief and could not provide a description, but the police report was not yet completed Wednesday afternoon, Marucci said.

“We do not recommend leaving vehicles unattended,” Marucci said. “A lot of people do that now because of the cold weather. If possible, residents should lock the car and use another key to gain entry.”
