Man Arrested for Burglary after Foot Chase

Maplewood Police officers arrest Linwood man

Maplewood Police officers arrested a Linwood man Thursday afternoon after he allegedly burglarized a house on Milton Street, according to Capt. John Perna.

Three officers caught 32-year-old John P. Mitchell, after he allegedly broke into the home near the Millburn border and then led police on a foot chase, said Perna. Mitchell fled the home after police responded to a call from a neighbor, and three officers — Officers Quentin Demarco and Sean Gearen and Sgt. James Oakes — pursued Mitchell on foot, Perna said.

After the officers caught Mitchell, they found proceeds from the burglary in his possession, Perna said.

Perna reminded residents to report any suspicious behavior to the police.

"Residents should never feel inhibited about calling police," Perna said. "We can get there quickly and assess the situation." If nothing is wrong, there is "no harm, no foul," he said.
