Man Arrested for Disorderly Conduct, Police Say

Parents call police after son reportedly takes kitchen knife following argument.

A 22-year-old man was arrested for disorderly conduct on Saturday, Dec. 29, after his parents alerted police their son was reportedly intoxicated and had taken a knife from the kitchen, according to Maplewood Police Capt. John Perna.

The man, Joris Koranteng of Rutgers Street, reportedly had an argument with his father at the family's home over the son's excessive use of alcohol, said Perna. Koranteng was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the argument, said Perna.

After the argument the son took a knife from the kitchen drawer and left the house, said Perna. When police arrived at the home to speak with the parents, Koranteng returned home and appeared to be intoxicated, according to Perna.

When officers questioned where the son had been and his reason for taking a knife from the kitchen, the son became highly agitated and began acting in a disorderly manner toward the officers, said Perna. Police then arrested Koranteng for disorderly conduct.

Police found the kitchen knife outside of the house, said Perna.

Carolyn, Just why did you think it necessary to post this information on the Patch? Young man has too much to drink. Concerned parents request help of the police. Now you make sure lots of people know about this incident. What has been accomplished?
