Maplewood Man Badly Burned in House Fire

Maplewood Fire Department rescue an elderly man trapped in a burning home.

Maplewood Firefighters rescued a Maplewood senior from a burning home on Curtiss Place, according to fire officials.

Firefighters were called to the home at 7:44 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26 on a report of smoke coming from the third floor of the home.

An elderly man was found on the third floor with severe burns and was transported to Saint Barnabas Burn Center in Livingston for treatment, said Maplewood Fire Chief Michael R. Dingelstedt.

The condition of the man was not immediately known.

The fire was quickly extinguished and appears to be accidental but is currently under investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, he said.
