Maplewood Police Investigate Gunpoint Robbery, Attempted Robberies

Police seek suspects after three robbery incidents.

Maplewood Police are investigating a robbery and two robbery attempts between Sept. 16 and Sept. 19, according to police reports.

A Vauxhall man was walking near Laurel Ave. and Indiana Street around 11 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16 when he was robbed at gunpoint.

Two men between the ages of 20 and 25 assaulted him and pointed a handgun at him, police said.

The men went through his pockets and took his wallet and cell phone before fleeing on foot.

Police were called to Boyden Ave. near Elmwood Ave. at 5:45 p.m. on Sept. 16 on a report of an attempted purse snatch.

When officers arrived they were told by a woman that a man in his 20's riding a mountain bike rode past her and grabbed the shopping bag she was carrying. The handles of the bag ripped and the man continued to ride North on Boyden Ave. and then East on Elmwood Ave. without any proceeds.

On Thursday, Sept. 19, a man and his adult daughter were exiting their vehicle on Essex Ave. when they were approached by two males who pointed a handgun and demanded their car keys.

The men appeared to become nervous and fled without taking anything to a car parked several houses away, police said.
