Police: Irvington Teen Arrested After Crashing Stolen Car

Officers charge 15-year-old in Sunday incident on Prospect Street and Tuscan Road.

A 15-year-old Irvington boy was arrested after driving a stolen car over a median and crashing into another car on Prospect Street, Capt. John Perna said.

Maplewood officers Matthew Jones and Adrian Verdun saw a Dodge Caravan driving erratically on Springfield Avenue on Sunday at at about 9:45 p.m., Perna said.

As officers tried to catch up with the car, the driver sped up, went over the median and hit another car at the intersection of Prospect and Tuscan Road, Perna said.

The teen tried to run away and the officers caught him, Perna said. Police charged him with possession of stolen property and resisting arrest, Perna said. 

The other driver was uninjured and his car suffered minor damage, Perna said.
