Reward Offered in Maplewood Shopkeeper Shooting

Essex County Sheriff's Office will pay $2,500 for information leading to arrest.

 

Authorities from the Essex County Sheriff's Office posted a cash reward Wednesday for $2,500 for information that leads to the arrest of the man wanted for an armed robbery and shooting of a Maplewood storekeeper.

The Crimestoppers program will pay up to $2,500 for details of the April 1 shooting at MS&K Confectionary Store at 745 Springfield Ave., said Sheriff Armando Fontoura. The shooting took place at approximately 1 p.m.

According to Maplewood police, the suspect entered the store, produced a handgun and demanded the shopkeeper open the cash register. Shortly thereafter, a struggle ensued and the shopkeeper was shot once in the torso.
The gunman fled the store on foot.

The suspect is described as a medium- to light-skinned African American or Hispanic male, in his late 30’s or 40’s, between 6’ to 6’3” tall, wearing either a mustache or goatee.
