Teens Caught Throwing Fireworks Into Crowd, Police Say

17-year-old Irvington resident also faces drug charges following Fourth of July arrest.

Two Irvington teens were caught throwing fireworks into a crowd of people and one also had marijuana packaged for distribution at the Fourth of July festivities Thursday at Memorial Park, Maplewood Police said.

According to Sgt. Christopher Black, officers saw the boys, ages 13 and 17, allegedly throwing the lit fireworks into a large crowd during the town's fireworks show, Black said. After arresting the teens, police found marijuana packaged for sale on the 17-year-old, Black said.

Officers from the Youth Aid Bureau charged the 13-year-old with possession of fireworks and the 17-year-old with possession of fireworks and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, Black said. Both teens were released to a guardian, Black said.
