Public Invited to Weigh in on Future of Memorial Park

Thursday's public meeting will concern a master plan for Maplewood's beloved park.

The Maplewood Historic Preservation Commission (MHPC) will host a public meeting on ideas and proposals for a Master Plan for Memorial Park at the Community Room of the Burgdorff Center, 10 Durand Road, Maplewood on Thursday from 5- 8 p.m.

The RBA Group, contracted by the township and funded by a grant, has been working with the MHPC and other local groups, to compose a plan for the future use and maintenance of "this well-used and well-loved property in the heart of Maplewood," said Marci White of the MHPC.

MHPC Chair Virginia Kurshan said the consultants are seeking public input before moving ahead with a plan. "There will be boards and charts on display at the meeting," she said . "The consultants...have been gathering data on the history and present condition of the park, as well as projected future needs of the community."

Kurshan continued, "Since the park is so well used by so many people, we think there will be many who could add important information into the mix.  We just hope that anyone with an interest in the future of the park will come out that night."
