The Township of Maplewood has begun its 2014 Municipal budget process and will be holding two more budget hearings with department heads.
The second meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Township Municipal Building at 574 Valley street. There they will hear from Engineering, Planning and Zoning at 9 a.m., Municipal Court and Prosecutor at 9:40, Administration, Human Resources, Redevelopment, Legal, and IT at 10:10.
They will then have a short break before meeting with Finance, Tax and Sewer Fee Collection at 10:50, Construction Officials and Code Enforcement at 11:20, Clerk and Township Committee at 11:50 a.m. A closed session will follow on Personnel Requests.
“All are welcomed and encouraged to attend the second meeting of the 2014 budget process,” the Township said in a written statement. “Saturday's budget hearing is the second of three scheduled meetings.”
On Saturday, Jan. 4, the 2014 budget discussions began with an overview of the process before the meetings with the heads of various departments. Township officials first heard from Fire and Office of Emergency Management, Police and Dispatching, Public Works and Recycling, as well as Recreation and Cultural Affairs.
The final meeting will be held on Saturday, Jan, 25 at 9 a.m. to discuss the Open Space Trust Fund, Community Coalition on Race, Maplewood Village Alliance, Springfield, Avenue Partnership, YouthNet, The Library and Revenues and Capital.
“Attending budget meetings is excellent for residents to educate themselves on the various components that comprise almost 26.5 percent of their tax bill,” the Township added.
