Party Committees Seek New TC Candidates

Want to really have a say in town politics? Run for Township Committee.

The Maplewood Democratic Committee (MDC) and the Maplewood Republican Committee (MRC) are seeking people interested in running for Maplewood Township Committee, according to Ian Grodman, MDC chair and Art Christensen of the MRC.

Grodman and Christensen are requesting that interested candidates submit applications by March 1.

Members of the Maplewood Township Committee serve three year terms. The seat currently held by Marlon Brownlee will be up for election in November, with the primary held in June. The MDC and MRC endorse a candidate for the primary and the winner of the primary is the endorsed candidate for the November general election.

Grodman said he did not know if Brownlee was considering running for re-election. He said that generally the MDC has endorsed incumbents with one of two exceptions over the years. "If an incumbent is running, there is a likelihood that people are happy," Grodman said.

Patch has reached out to Brownlee but has not yet received a reply.

"If the Republicans can get a good candidate to run, more power to them," said Grodman. "I hope they are successful."

Interested candidates should submit letters of interest and resumes to either Grodman at iangrodman@gmail.com or Mary Devon O'Brien, chair of the MRC at marydevon@msn.com

The full committees meet with those interested in order to decide and provide the endorsement to the Essex County Board of Elections by the first week in April. For more information, contact Grodman at the above email address or Christensen at artchristensen616@gmail.com.
