Repairs Coming for Irene-Damaged Walls in Memorial Park

Maplewood and FEMA raised funds to do repairs of the river walls running through part of the park.

When Hurricane Irene hit, bringing with it severe flooding in summer 2011, the storm severely damaged the walls along the east branch of the Rahway River that runs through Maplewood's Memorial Park.

Two years later, the township and the Federal Emergency Management Agency have come up with funding to repair the walls, The Alternative Press reported.

Though no date has been announced for the reconstruction work, plans entail building a new foundation and rebuilding the walls in the same locations and with the same materials as the original walls, the article said.
