Special Planning Meeting for Walgreens Announced

The Planning Board convenes on July 30 to discuss the Springfield Avenue pharmacy.

The Planning Board will hold a special meeting on July 30 to continue the presentation by the developers behind the proposed Walgreens on Springfield Avenue. The developers presented plans and answered questions at the most recent regular meeting of the Planning Board, held July 15.

The plans for the store have been met with controversy. Residents in the neighborhood near the proposed Walgreens site worry about the noise, the store’s effect on traffic and the possibility that the store will be open 24 hours. Earlier this month, Walgreens said they would cancel plans for the Springfield Avenue store if a proposed Maplewood ordinance limiting business hours of operation passed.

The meeting will be held at the Township Municipal Building. The agenda for the special meeting can be found here.
