Township Will Provide Jitney to #25 Bus

Maplewood commuters can get to Newark Penn Station, then to New York Penn Station.

From Mayor Vic DeLuca:

Effective 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, Maplewood jitneys will take Maplewood riders to Springfield Avenue just over the Township's border with Irvington so they can catch the number 25 bus to Newark Penn Station. From Newark Penn commuters can access New York Penn by train or take the number 108 bus to Port Authority Bus Terminal in mid-town Manhattan.

The 25 bus fare is $2.35 which must be exact change (dollar bills and coins). Those with a November train pass can use that for the bus fare and the fare into NYC.

Route 1 will pick up passengers at the Maplewood Train Station on Dunnell Road from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. This Jitney will go directly to Springfield Avenue and 43rd Street.

Route 2 will pick up passengers at any corner on the north side of Elmwood Avenue to Prospect Street turning right on Prospect Street picking up passengers on the east side of Prospect St. turning right on Parker Ave. The jitney will travel east toward Warren Rd. and proceed to Springfield Ave. Route will run from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

Evening riders can pick up a jitney and have a reverse ride from the morning commute from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The jitney will be on Chancellor Ave. alongside the old Maplewood Diner.

This service is only available to Maplewood residents and you must show your jitney pass or another form of identification and pay the $1.00 fare. Service is subject to change.

I thought NJT was accepting October train passes through Friday. Many commuters have not yet purchased a November pass either due to making alternate commuting arrangements (away from NJT facilities where passes could be obtained) or uncertainties about what service would even be available over the next few weeks. And, since there was an earlier announcement regarding cross-honoring them through Friday, they should not renege on that now.

"Route 2 will pick up passengers at any corner on the north side of Elmwood Avenue to Prospect Street ..." Sorry - my sense of direction was impacted by Sandy. Which is the north side of Elmwood?

sorry forgot to ask: "Route will run from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m" what does this mean? Will it be there at random times between these hours?

Great service. Finally an option that does not involve using my car. Even had reliable service last night in the snow storm. Keep it up.
