Wellness Week Comes to Maplewood

Week of activities will culminate in Wellness Fair in Memorial Park on October 13.

 

More than 30 different local businesses, organizations and experts throughout Maplewood will offer free open houses, classes, services and demonstrations on topics in health, nutrition, exercise and finance during the township's Wellness Week from October 8 - 13.

Part of Maplewood Loves Wellness, a new township-wide community awareness program, the action-packed week will culminate with a Wellness Fair in Memorial Park in Maplewood on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. , and a 5K run/walk to support the Maplewood Volunteer First Aid Squad.

Maplewood is partnering with Barnabas Health-Saint Barnabas Medical Center and the New Jersey Mayors’ Wellness Campaign on the initiative.

Events during the week range from free chair massages, kickboxing classes, cooking demos, meditation lessons and information on diabetes, to financial wellness for women, children's fitness, advice on long term care and how to cope with separation and divorce.

“Our goal is to help Maplewood residents explore the many options available locally to enhance all aspects of their health and well being,” said Deputy Mayor Kathleen M. Leventhal in a press release.

On October 13, the First Aid Squad 5K (for all ages) begins at 10 a.m. at the headquarters on 129 Boyden Avenue. Registration begins at 9 a.m. It will be followed by the Wellness Fair, featuring activities for the whole family including zumba, yoga and kickboxing, a bike rodeo, jumbo bowling (with an 8 foot ball and 4 foot pins) and jumbo basketball with a 4 foot wide hoop, in the Amphitheater at Memorial Park South.
