CHS Principal to Retire After 12 Years With District

Former South Orange Middle School principal to step in as interim.

Columbia High School Principal Dr. Lovie Lilly, who has led the school since 2007, will retire on Sept. 1, according to a South Orange-Maplewood School District (SOMSD) spokeswoman.

Lilly has served 12 years in the district. She was assistant principal from 2001-2006, and acting principal from 2006-07, when she assumed the role of principal.

SOMSD Administrator Kirk Smith will serve as CHS interim principal until the district hires a new permanent leader, the spokeswoman said.  Smith currently serves as principal on special assignment at CHS. Previously he served as principal for South Orange Middle School for 13 years.
