District Annouces Meeting with Middle School Neighbors

A special Board of Education meeting has been scheduled for Monday evening, May 7 at 8:00 pm to discuss the proposed Maplewood Middle School addition. The meeting will take place in the Maplewood Middle School auditorium. The meeting will later be televised on the local cable network on Thursday, May 10 and will also be accessible at that time through the District website www.somsd.k12.nj.us (go to the “District Info” tab then scroll down to the “South Orange & Maplewood Television on the Web” link on the left).

As you may be aware from the public meetings and newspaper articles, the South Orange Maplewood School District plans to build an addition to Maplewood Middle School. We anticipate increased enrollment in our middle schools, and this 3-story addition will provide 7 new classrooms to accommodate the higher enrollment.

The addition will be located to the Maple Avenue side of the existing building. We anticipate the work will start in September 2012 and be completed by August 2013. The District will take every possible measure to minimize any inconvenience to the neighborhood.
