Don't Forget to Vote in Belleville School election

Two Board of Education trustees and a $61.3 school budget face vote.

It’s Board of Education trustee election day in Belleville, and voters will also say yes or no the $61.3 million 2012-13 school budget.

Four candidates are seeking two, three-year terms on the Belleville Board of Education today. Polls are open from 2 p.m.  to 9 p.m.

Sitting Board of Education President Peter Zangari, Jr. is a candidate, and there are three challengers: Erika Jacko, Jeanne Lombardo and Ralph Vellon.

The Board passed the final 2012-2013 school budget that contains a zero dollar tax increase for a home assessed at $244,562, the average value of a home in Belleville, according to Edward Appleton, board of education secretary/business administrator.

This is the second  year in a row that the average tax bill has not increased because of the school budget, administrators say.

Yes, please vote! Please also try to find ANY information on these candidates! If only there was some local media source that focused on just local issues! It would be wonderful to have such a source of local news! There are two general information articles, one that appeared in April 5th edition of The Belleville Times (http://www.northjersey.com/news/146220685_Candidates_get_down_to_the_issues.html?page=all) and one that appears in yesterday’s Belleville Patch (http://belleville.patch.com/articles/three-candidates-competing-for-two-school-board-seats). Why did the local media sources fail to do one-on-one interviews with the candidates? Also, what happened to the public forum in which residents can ask questions of the candidates? It’s no wonder there is only a 10% voter turnout. There has also been very little mentioned of the re-districting within Belleville. I only found out by looking at the sample ballot for the School Board Election. There is no mention of this on the Belleville Township website, nor is there a map available on the site (there is a paper copy available at the Town Hall, if you know to ask for it). There is no shortage of Easter Egg Hunt photos. The vote for town council is May 8th and I have been researching the wrong candidate!

For those folks who want to confirm their voting registration and ward/district assignments (and yes, there have been slight changes in the ward boundaries for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Wards in Belleville), please visit the following State website: https://voter.njsvrs.com/PublicAccess/jsp/PollPlace/PollPlaceSearch.jsp#
