SOMSD Superintendent Candidate for Michigan Job

Brian Osborne is in the running to become superintendent in Ann Arbor, school district confirmed.

South Orange–Maplewood School District (SOMSD) Superintendent Brian Osborne is in the running to become the next superintendent of Ann Arbor (Mich.) Public Schools, a SOMSD spokeswoman confirmed Monday morning.

One of six candidates, Osborne was interviewed on Monday, according to a report in Ann Arbor.com, which said the board hoped to make a decision by July 17. If hired, he would replace Patricia Green, whose recent decision to resign after just two years shocked the Ann Arbor Board of Education, the report said.

The district is in the midst of its fourth superintendent search in ten years and has had five superintendents since 2002, the report said.

Osborne's contract with SOMSD expires on June 30, 2014.  In 2009, the South Orange – Maplewood Board of Education voted to amend Osborne's original contract, which would have expired in June 2010. In 2011, the board gave Osborne a 2% raise. His current salary is $208,170, said the district spokeswoman.

Other candidates include the superintendent of Derry Township Schools in Hershey, PA, as well as the principal of an alternative high school in Ann Arbor, who is reported to be a front-runner. The board will narrow down the finalists to two or three and also will visit finalists’ school districts between July 10-13, the report said.
