The Music Department is combining music with a little history on Friday, November 11— Veterans Day — when the department is sponsoring a free concert featuring the United States Army Field Band Volunteers at South Orange Middle School.
"We would love to have a packed house for this concert," says Peter Bauer, CHS Director of Bands.
The Volunteers, a six-piece musical show band, is one of the U.S. Army Field Band's four performing components. They perform pop songs, standards — think Dave Matthews Band, Eagles — and, of course, the National Anthem. The band is completely made up of enlisted U.S. Army personnel. The band tours in support of U.S. diplomatic missions and as an ambassador for the U.S. Army in the United States.
"These are some of the top young musicians in the country. It's a rare opportunity for our kids," said Bauer. The performance is purely a musical event; the school is not allowed to do any fundraising around it.
All costs for the band's transportation, lodging and meals are paid by the Department of the Army.
The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at South Orange Middle School. Tickets are free but must be reserved. At this time, free tickets can be reserved by visiting http://armyfieldband.ticketleap.com/southorange/.
