New gym opens on Springfield Avenue; offering free trial week.

CKO Kickboxing, a new business at 1933 Springfield Avenue owned by Maplewood residents Tara and James (JJ) Connell, celebrated its ribbon cutting on Saturday.

Mayor Vic DeLuca and Township Committeeman Jerry Ryan joined the couple to cut the ribbon.

Connell said she began going to a CKO Kickboxing studio five years ago after having her first child. "I was looking for an activity that would not only help me get back into shape postpartum, but that also would be enough fun to motivate me to stick with it," said Connell.

She and her husband moved with their three children to Maplewood and the couple decided to open a CKO here. "We are excited to bring CKO’s fun and energy to Maplewood to help people get in shape and feel great about themselves," Connell said.
