Beat the Heat at a Maplewood Cooling Center

Summer swelter getting to you? The township offers help in staying cool—and safe.

Temperatures climbing past 90 make summer unbearable for many and downright dangerous potentially for youngsters, the elderly and people with medical conditions. To help keep people cool and safe, the Township of Maplewood is making three cooling stations available to residents.

The three centers are:

  • De Hart Community Center on Burnett Avenue, which is open until 4:30 p.m.
  • The Memorial Library on Baker Street, open until 9 p.m.
  • The Hilton Branch Library on Springfield Ave. , open until 5 p.m.

As of press time, the township had not announced whether the stations would be open past Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, we can expect high heat through at least Friday, with temperatures in the mid- to high 90s and heat indexes approaching or surpassing 100 degrees. A heat advisory is in effect for the area until 8 p.m. Monday.
