No Lines to Enter Pool on Thursday

On a second day of extreme temperatures, Maplewood Pool had the crowds under control.

After suffering through long lines to enter the at its 3 p.m. opening on June 20, patrons found it much faster to get into the pool on Thursday, June 21.

On Wednesday, some reported to Patch that they were waiting in line as long as 25 to 30 minutes to enter the pool complex. Most locals who emailed Patch were sanguine about the wait, saying they understood that the circumstances were extreme and that they used the wait time to catch up with friends in the parking lot.

Others lamented the wait in a "scorching" hot parking lot without shade and questioned why pool management just didn't wave through everyone who flashed a badge.

Township Committeeman Jerry Ryan, who is liaison to the Recreation Department, explained that pool management ultimately did adopt that policy on Wednesday.

However, by Thursday, pool staff were ready for the crowds. Patrons reported that staff allowed members into the pool well before the 3 p.m. opening time — so no line accumulated.

In fact, the only lines on Thursday were for water slides, the diving tower and the lobster rolls.
