Sliding Into Summer

The mayor and kids inaugurate the new water slides at the grand re-opening of the Maplewood Community Pool.

I never thought that one of my favorite places in Maplewood could get any better until today. There are water slides at The Maplewood Pool.

Jessie and James Gonon were lined up at the front door by 9:45 a.m. to keep their record in tact, and be the first one in the pool for the fourth year in a row.  Today, they may have begun a new record, by being the first ones down the water slides as well.

Minalee Carson, always one of the first pool goers of the season sang, "It's the most wonderful time of the year" as she posed for photos with Eric Atkins.

The pool has a new deck, a ramp leading into the main pool and two water slides, one inclosed and one open. To go down the sides you must be at least 48 inches and the lines were growing with both children and adults. Even the mayor took a ride down both.

Freeman's is running the snack bar and have seafood, burgers, salads and snacks among their many options to order. Lines were long already as people anxiously awaited the lobster roll and dined while listening to the band "Splash Down."

Judging from the first day, it is sure to be a fun summer.
